Seminar: “Trade injustice and women,” on the impacts of trade liberalisation and trade rules on men and women. Case studies and individual testimonies on how international trade decisions discriminate against women, with a particular focus on ICT policies, textile and food production. It was followed by a debate on the alternatives to neo-liberalism and how women at grass roots level can be involved in the trade decision-making process.
“Friends of the Earth” were gathering signatures against genetically modified (GM) foods in the European Union (EU). Currently, the EU does not allow the import of GM, but the United-States are lobbying to change this law. Friends of the Earth were therefore inviting people to discover the United-States tradition of painting a drawing of a Turkey for Thanks Giving, and to send the petition drawings to the US government.
