10th anniversary of Slovakian feminist organization

Slovakian leading feminist organization Aspect is celebrating 10th anniversary.

Aspekt was founded in 1993 as the feminist non-governmental and non-profit organization aimed at women’s education.

As far as feminism absented in Slovakia till then, Aspekt was the first NGO, opening women’s and gender issues from feminist perspective.

One of the main activities is the feminist cultural journal Aspekt being published from 1993. In 1996 Aspekt started to publish books as well: fiction, non-fiction, books for children, etc.

Aspekt has unique library in Slovakia with the books from feminist and gender theory, and other fields. Aspekt is organizing seminars, lectures, presentations of the books, workshops, etc.

Aspekt was one of the NGOs, which brought the topic of violence against women to media in Slovak Republic. Aspekt is cooperating with other women NGOs, involved in topics as violence, equal opportunities, women in politics, gender roles and stereotypes.

Longstanding and continuing co-operation of 7 NGO (Aspekt, Fenestra, Alliance of Women in Slovakia, Pro choice, Pro Familia, Esfem, Altera) in Slovakia culminated in the national campaign against violence on women.

Aspekt is cooperating with other women NGOs, involved in topics as violence, equal opportunities, women in politics, gender roles and stereotypes.
