Student protesters against US bases beaten by police |
Sofia. The "23rd September Resistant Movement" came out with a declaration against the arrest of their members Vladimir Trichkov and Stefan Andonov who were arrested on 11th November in the capital city for sticking posters on the walls of the Synagogue. The Movement sent out their declaration to FOCUS Agency claiming that they will continue their protests against the deployment of US military bases in Bulgaria. They added they will go on with the posters and distributing fliers and stickers.
Their declaration goes on to explain that their members were arrested by the police immediately the same night, handcuffed and severely beaten up by officers at the spot of the arrest, inside the police car and later at the police station. The consequences from the beating were confirmed by experts 40 hours after their arrest. The students were not allowed medical treatment, were questioned without the presence of a lawyer and were not allowed to call their relatives from the police station. Later the two students announced a hunger strike in order to be released. They were finally released much later than the 72 hours allowed under the law.
