Average monthly wage in Bulgaria is 284 BGN

The average monthly wage of people with full-time jobs stood at 384 leva in the first quarter of 2007, said the National Statistical Institute Friday. It was 449 leva in the public sector and 358 leva in the private sector.

In the public sector, wages were highest for financial intermediaries (1 042 leva), followed by the workers in the extracting industry (899 leva), trade and repair of automobiles, personal effects and household goods (774 leva). Wages were lowest for hotel and restaurant workers (318 leva).

In the private sector, too, financial intermediaries were the best-paid workers (890 leva), followed by workers in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and water (657 leva) and the extracting industry (588 leva). Employees in hotels and restaurants were again the worst paid (255 leva).

In March the average wage in the public sector was 464 leva, 22 leva more than in February. Wages in the private sector grew by 14 leva to 368 leva.
