21-23 May: Climate, agriculture and development - CEE NGO Advocacy Conference

Friday 6 April 2007

Glopolis, a Czech non-partisan, non-governmental think-tank focussing on economic globalization, sustainability and development analysis and advocacy is organising a conference on the topic: Climate, agriculture and development - CEE NGO Advocacy Seminar in Prague, Czech Republic.

The Prague Seminar will host about 30-40 participants mainly from development, environmental, alter-globalization and other civil society organizations (CSOs) from the Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries along with top NGO experts from EU-15 countries. The working language will be English.

Main objectives of the seminar are:

Build and enhance capacities of Czech, Hungarian and other CEE civil society organizations and networks to:
- Account for different views on, better understand selected key issues of, and links between, economic globalization and sustainable development (food sovereignty, climate change, EPAs)
- Identify and discuss pro-development and pro-sustainable alternatives to these global problems
- Monitor and analyze relevant national, EU and international policies (agricultural, energy/climate and trade policy) and their impact on sustainable development (with a view to increasing policy coherence for development)
- Advocate for alternatives in these fields among key target groups (decision-makers, media, public), including learn how to hand over advocacy skills further in their local work, through transfer of knowledge and skills from selected international and European development campaigns
- Exchange experience with other civil society organizations from the CEE region and with experts and NGOs from the EU, strengthen regional and EU networks, strategize, brainstorm and plan how to enhance NGO advocacy and policy work in the region.

The programme blocs (arrival day followed by analytical and advocacy days followed by training and coordination day) consistently build on one another in order to make a coherent whole and achieve the main objectives. At the same time, programme blocs are designed so that participants as well as facilitators unable to come for the whole duration may pick just parts of the programme. You are welcome to come just for 1, 2 or 3 days of your choice.

Funding for CEE participants is available. However, capacity of the Seminar is limited. In case of your interest in this event, we kindly ask you to fill in the application form and return it by April 25 by email to: balajova@glopolis.org. The list of participants will be announced by April 28.

In case of any questions please contact Kristyna Balajova, or Ondrej Kopecny.
