September 14-15: international conference on Partnership in Organic Farming and Quality of Foods |
Sofia will host on September 14 and 15 an international conference on Partnership in Organic Farming and Quality of Foods which takes place on the eve of the Day of Organic Farming marked on September 16. The forum will be opened by Agriculture and Forests Minister Nihat Kabil. Dutch Ambassador to Sofia Willem van Ee will address the conference, sources from Agrolink Association said.
During the event Bulgaria will be visited for the first time by a representative of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), IFOAM Vice President Alessandro Triantafyllidis. Senior officials from the Delegation of the European Commission in Bulgaria and of the British Embassy are also expected to address the forum.
Attending the conference will be 140 representatives of leading Bulgarian and international organizations and institutions.
Producers, state officials, scholars, environmentalists and biology consultants from Bulgaria, Romania, the Netherlands, Britain, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, Hungary, Switzerland, France and the Czech Republic will work together to improve partnership and the successful introduction and enforcement of the food safety standards in organic farming.
One of the highlights of the event is a special dinner of dishes made with certified organic products provided by Bulgarian producers.
The conference takes place with support from the Institute of Applied Plant-growing in Wigeningen, the Netherlands, and under a project of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests financed from the Communication Strategy on Bulgaria’s accession to the EU.
