International Roma day celebrated in Bulgaria

Sunday 16 April 2006

Hundreds of Roma rallied in the streets of Sofia and other Bulgarian towns on April 8th to mark International Roma Day. Wreaths were placed at several places throughout the country, including the Unknown Soldier monument in Sofia, to honor the memory of the Roma killed in Nazi concentration camps.

The rally in Sofia marched through the streets carrying banners and posters reading "No to racism, no to populism, no to hatred, Bulgaria for all." At the end of the march a special liturgy was held in the Sveta Nedelya church.
